The Ranch Hand Trail Stop is located 1.5 miles north of Montpelier, Idaho on Highway 30, Highway 30 is the trucker’s and traveler’s choice for the fastest route to the Northwest. The Ranch Hand opened its doors in 1979 as a convenient stop for the residents of Bear Lake Valley and to fill the need for a natural stop for travelers. On June 15, 1981, a partnership including Mike and Linda Hunzeker, bought the business. It was later sold and tragically closed in 2007. 2008 brought a reopening by a new partnership of Mike and Linda Hunzeker and Greg and Kirsten Moore.
The Ranch Hand has been through 3 remodels. The first remodel enlarged the convenience store and dining area to accommodate the growing business. The second remodel added a larger kitchen, new showers, and a new truckers lounge located above the new restaurant. In 2009 a Sports Bar was opened stocked with ice cold beer and offers 2 big screen HDTVs for our patron’s enjoyment.
In our restaurant we continually strive to bring you quality homemade food at a reasonable price. We offer homemade hand-pressed burgers, homemade soups daily, fresh homemade rolls and biscuits, plus many other good things that are made from scratch. If you are brave enough to try, we offer a “big stack” challenge. You eat all 3 pancakes in 1 hour and we will buy them for you!
We have courteous, efficient and friendly staff ready to serve you. We try to meet the needs of our customers 24/7 by having a great restaurant, a unique gift shop and a handy well-stocked convenience store.

We offer free parking on an 8 acre well lit lot. A truckers lounge with private showers, (free with 75 gallon fuel purchase).
